Description
The Moots Vamoots RCS: A Versatile Love Child of the Vamoots Disc RSL and Routt RSL
If you have been having trouble deciding between the Vamoots Disc RSL and the Routt RSL, then you are not alone. That’s probably why the Moots Vamoots RCS was born. This love child has inherited all the best traits of its forebears while adding its own engaging personality into the mix.
To save you the distress of having to figure out what yet another acronym means, we’ll reveal that the RCS stands for Routt County Special. This moniker might mystify anyone who has not been lucky enough to ride in the Colorado Rockies around Steamboat Springs, but if you have, you’ll know exactly what they mean and what is its mission in life. Because those roads that the Moots folks are so lucky to have in their backyard are an amazing mix of some of the most epic road cycling roads in the world that exist cheek by jowl with some of the most luminous gravel trails as well. In fact, it’s hard to do a ride where you are not likely to have to face both types of road surfaces – beautiful if sometimes weather-pocked pavement with even more fantastic washboard defined gravel sections. Epic hardly begins to describe what you can find there.
That’s why the Vamoots RCS features the top quality butted RSL tubing that makes the Vamoots Disc RSL such a joy to ride no matter what size you are. They butt their tubes to keep the weight down and ensure the lateral stiffness loses nothing in spite of the level of comfort that the vertical compliancy offers. You can enjoy the snappy acceleration and then marvel at how un-shattered you feel at the end of a long ride. The 3D printed dropout and brake mount adds a bit of pizzazz to the rear end, while enhancing the appearance since it makes it possible to bring the brake inside the rear triangle for a cleaner look.
Updated Fork in the Moots Vamoots RCS
The fork has also been updated to offer that consistent level of rigidity that helps keep the handling tight without rattling your front end. And whereas the Vamoots Disc RSL has a max tire clearance of a very road-oriented 30mm and the Routt RSL leans more heavily in the off-road direction with a max clearance of 45mm, the Vamoots RCS splits the difference with clearance for a 35mm tire. That’s the type of tire width that will get you through most gravel situations well without forcing you to sacrifice too much speed and agility when faced with a mega Rocky Mountain-sized climb.
Another nod toward road riders is that Moots Vamoots RCS is designed for 2x road groupsets with room up to 52 tooth big chainring. So unlike the Routt RSL, you can build this frame up with Campagnolo or non-gravel wide groupsets, if you’d like. It’s a bike that is ready to do your bidding and encourage you to ride farther, faster, and higher than you ever thought possible.
