Though the Italian company Colnago has a deep history in cycling, it is far more than a legacy brand. The company has always been an innovator and high quality producer of widely successful bicycles. And the release of the Colnago C68 Rim Brake proves that reports of the death of rim brakes have been exaggerated. 

New solutions in Colnago C68 Rim Brake

Colnago recognizes that there are still a lot of cyclists who value the simplicity of rim brakes, and how they help the frame keep that clean look and lower weight compared to disc brakes. That’s why Colnago designers have added the rim brake option to their top-of-the-line C68 collection. Having introduced their latest modular carbon frame design with a disc brake version, then offered an All-Road option, followed by a Gravel C68, it’s only natural that they would complete the collection with a rim brake option. 

In order to adapt the C68 platform to rim brakes, the designers at Colnago had to make just a few tweaks to the frame and fork. Most importantly, they had to design a new fork that accepts direct-mount, double-pivot rim brakes. It’s actually an excellent system that ensures exceptional braking thanks to the super secure dual attaching points for the brakes rather than a single point mount. Similarly in the rear, the seat stays are redesigned to accept direct-mount rim brakes, while the dropouts are made from 3D-printed titanium. Designed to offer the same durability and longevity enjoyed by disc brake through-axles, the 3D-printed titanium allows for super secure closure with the quick release axle while preventing any chance of corrosion between metal and carbon. 

Aside from that, the C68 Rim Brake receives the same loving care and attention that all the other C68 series frames enjoy. Handmade and assembled in Italy, the modular design represents the updated version of the famous lugged C-series Colnago frames. Colnago believes deeply in the effectiveness of their lugged design largely because it allows them to tune the ride quality precisely while also being able to offer a wide range of stock sizes.

The C68 Rim Brake features the CeramicSpeed SLT bearings just like the C68 Disc. This bearing system has only recently been developed by the Danish experts and comes with a lifetime warranty since they are practically indestructible and require no maintenance. That’s a huge plus if you are going with an integrated barstem with internal cable routing. Available in seven sizes, the Rim Brake frame can be built up only with electronic rim brake groupsets.
