Affordable Performance: Basso Astra Disc for Budget-Conscious Riders
Though Basso can certainly hold its own when creating top quality super bikes, they also recognize that even if folks don’t have the budget to spend five digits on their next bike, they still want to have the chance to ride a snappy racer. That’s where the Basso Astra Disc will be such a boon. Made with similarly high quality materials and attention to detail as the Diamante, the Astra Disc still can be bought without having to put a second mortgage on your house.
The monocoque frame of the Astra Disc has been built to keep the bike light without compromising on durability or comfort. Finding that balance is essential for the overall ride quality. Basso makes their frames in Italy so they know a thing or two about how best to place the carbon when layering the frame. The tube shapes have been chosen to maximize rigidity to make it positively snap when you are pushing the pace out of the saddle. The designers have also borrowed certain aero sculpting from their other bikes to offer a wind cheating advantage. At the front end, the head tube features a rib that guides the cables as they flow around to enter neatly at the down tube. The seat stays have been fashionably dropped for a stiffer, more aero effect, while the seat tube has a small wheel cutout to help smooth the air flow around that region.
Using 3K Torayca High Modulus Carbon Fiber in T700-MR60 gives the frame a level of compliance that will help absorb those fatiguing road vibrations. The fact that the bottom bracket shell has been made from a single molding means that they have been able to produce it to be seriously stiff and resistant to torsional forces even at extreme loads. It also means that the minimum of material has needed to be used, keeping the weight low. They have also been able to reinforce those areas of the frame that will need to be especially sturdy on account of the different forces exerted when the disc brakes are applied.
Precise Handling of the Basso Astra Disc
To ensure the handling is precise, Basso includes their own stem design that uses headset spacers to get exactly the stack setting you want while keeping the steering tight and responsive. The tapered head tube also adds to the overall beauty and reliability of the handling with a straight blade monocoque fork to help absorb vibration and rail control. And the race-oriented geometry still manages to give you the options for as comfortable and relaxed position as you need.
The Basso Astra Disc will be the perfect option for anyone keen to make the most out of every road ride. It’s ideal for weekend races and summertime adventures alike. Available in seven sizes and three color schemes, the Astra Disc will quickly work its way into your cyclist’s heart.
