Cipollini NKTT Disc: Enhancing Performance with Disc Brakes
It took a while, but now disc brakes are not only accepted but expected on time trial bikes. The Cipollini NKTT Disc is a prime example of how the addition is not only following a trend but enhancing an already dynamic and high performance time trial or triathlon racing bike.
That’s because the disc brakes are not a gimmick but actually increase the handling capabilities of the NKTT. Extensively tested in the wind tunnel, the Cipollini NKTT Disc not only helps you cheat the wind, but it does so while retaining an almost unheard of (for a TT bike) level of stability. You’ve probably seen some images of pros even having their TT bikes whipped out from under them. That’s because typically in order to get to the absolute razor’s edge of aerodynamics, bike designers often sacrifice stability and any cushioning margin for pilot error. With the NKTT Disc, retaining maneuverability and stability even in windy conditions raked high on the list of design to-dos, since they know most people who ride these bikes will likely be racing triathlons in windy places like Hawaii.
True Monocoque Construction of the NKTT Disc Frame for Stiffness and Weight Reduction
With that in mind, they also developed their full carbon handlebar and stem setup that offers a great level of aerodynamics and comfort. Made in-house by Cipollini, the cockpit includes an integrated junction box for easy setting up of electric groupsets. The fork and head tube have also received a lot of wind tunnel attention. The monocoque fork has been sculpted to offer a sharp leading edge to the wind and has been integrated into the front end to help smooth out the airflow. For the frame, Cipollini’s designers stuck with the true monocoque production which means that the front and rear triangle are made as one piece. Typically for most monocoque frames, only the front triangle is one piece, and then the rear stays are bonded on later. By making it all one piece, Cipollini believes that increases the level of stiffness while reducing the weight.
You’ll be able to choose whether your seatpost has a 0° setback or 30°, which will allow you to find your preferred position in terms of reach. And thanks to the freedom that disc brakes offer in terms of frame design, the Cipollini NKTT Disc can fit up to 29mm wide tires. That makes a huge difference in terms of traction and lowered rolling resistance. It means you’ll be able to take those sweeping corners at full speed without having to get out of the aero position. Available in four sizes, the Cipollini NKTT Disc is the ultimate eye-catching TT or Tri aero machine. Get ready to turn heads and win races aboard the NKTT Disc.
