Agility Redefined - The Intense Primer 275 Experience
Though 29ers have pretty much taken over the trail riding market, there is still most definitely a place for 27.5 in wheels, especially if you are a smaller rider. They save on weight and ramp up the agility. The Intense Primer 275 uses all the same high quality materials and advanced technology as the Primer 29 and adjusts it for the smaller wheels to ensure a ton of fun no matter where you ride.
Since the designers at Intense wanted the Primer 275 to offer the exact same ride qualities of the Primer 29, they have tweaked the geometry to ensure that. Interestingly, with the smaller wheels and adjusted geometry tables, the Primer 275 comes in just three sizes – S, M, and L – but the size small is recommended for people between 4’7” and 5’5”, which is great news for anyone who finds themselves struggling to feel totally confident on frames that consistently cater to the larger-sized people. The size large is suggested for people up to 5’11”, the reasoning being that anyone who is taller really will be more comfortable on the big-wheeled version.
But they have stuck to the same 140mm rear and 150mm front travel so that you can count on the same big-hit absorbing suspension to carry you through your most advanced trail rides. The designers find this combo right in the sweet spot for do-it-all trail bikes. Versatility is key for the Primer line, and with the intelligent suspension design, aided by the Flip Chip technology, you will be able to look down any DH trail and know you have a bike up to the challenge.
The Primer 275’s monocoque carbon frame features a dual-strut design that uses a pair of counter-rotating links to connect the front and rear triangles and has been tuned for 140mm of rear wheel travel. It’s a clever design that separates the pedaling and braking forces from the suspension. The counter-rotating links to connect the front and rear triangles of the bike is the brainchild of Intense founder and CEO Jeff Steber. His suspension design is used throughout the Intense line-up, though each category of bike gets their own tune appropriate for the intended purpose. In the case of the Primer 275, they want you to be able to feel confident to attack your downhills without having to dread the climb back up.
Flip Chip Geometry Transformation in the Primer 275
To facilitate that, Intense includes Flip Chip technology to allow you to adjust your geometry according to your ride preference and route requirements. Located where the top of the rear triangle meets the top swing-link, the Flip Chip can be switched without hassle to alter the geometry between high and low settings. The high setting is intended for everyday riding that incorporates at least 50% climbing, but when you are planning on hitting the DH trails, then you can go low and go hard. Going from the high to low mode slackens the headangle, drops the bottom bracket, and shortens the reach.
The flickable fun that the Intense Primer 275 provides will make any trail rider keen to find the next adventure to test your skill, expand your limits, and have a blast.
