Evil Bikes The Insurgent LS - Perfecting Enduro Mastery
The designers at Evil Bikes have been busy trying to perfect what already seems perfect. This latest round of Lightly Salted updates now extends to Evil Bikes The Insurgent LS. Though The Insurgent LB was a pretty sweet beast, The Insurgent LS proves that there’s always a little something more that can ramp up our understanding of perfection for enduro, all-mountain and DH rigs.
With 168mm rear travel, The Insurgent has been the biggest travel bike in the Evil line-up for a while. It remains that but now the LS includes the added spice of having the choice between a 27.5-inch wheelset and a 29/27.5 MX mixed-wheel set-up. With a 27.5-inch version, you’ll get a 180mm suspension fork to combine super shredability with maneuverability. Meanwhile the mixed-wheel option has a 170mm fork with an eye towards stability and steeper lines that enduro racing and aggressive trail riding demand.
Though The Insurgent LS will bring a smile to the face of any DH thrasher or bike park popper thanks to its insane capability on downhill dashes, it has also been designed to be able to climb better than you’d expect from such a bruiser of a bike. The 78.2° seat tube angle makes for an upright position and longer reach and pairs with a 44mm offset to enhance agility on techy climbs.
They’ve also gone with Super Boost spacing and a 55mm chainline. The combo enhances not only the strength of the frame but makes it possible to expand tire clearance. Super Boost also gives the designers the chance to update the hardware by widening the main pivot, resulting in increased stiffness at that critical junction point. Among other things, it means that you can fit a 2.6-inch tire in the frame (depending on brand) with the 27.5-inch wheels. And with the 29-inch front, Evil spec’s a 2.5-inch tire. So there’s definitely space for some serious rubber.
Relying as always on Dave Weagle’s DELTA Link system for the suspension with its Flip-chip adjustability, you can still tweak the geometry exactly to suit your needs. The system has been updated as well to reduce weight and increase user-friendliness. With a choice between low and extra-low, you will be able to adjust the geometry to offer the perfect set-up depending on the type of course you choose and rider you are.
The Insurgent LS - Future-Proofed with SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger
As with all the LS updates, The Insurgent LS gets future-proofed with the SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) which is super easy to replace if damaged and also ensures you will be ready to upgrade to the SRAM next-gen Eagle SL drivetrain if you’d like.
Evil Bikes The Insurgent LS comes in a very elegant graphite colorway that Evil calls Spacebot. It is available in four sizes and a variety of build options.
