Ibis Ripmo AF UDH Bike Frame - Premium Performance at a Great Price
What’s really brilliant about the Ripmo AF UDH is that it offers a premium ride at such a reasonable price. The aluminum frame not only keeps the price down, but enhances the durability, which is important especially if this is your first foray into big time suspension. You can have the confidence to try new things knowing that you have a super forgiving and durable bike that can handle some punishment. The folks at Ibis say that is one of the main reasons they reintroduced metal frames into their line-up: they want to make their amazing bikes available to as many people as possible.
When you go for long suspension mountain bikes, you can be caught in a situation where you are enjoying the ride down, but working your way up a hill or even rolling around on level ground can be quite a chore since so much of your pedaling energy is also absorbed by the shocks. That’s never the case with an Ibis ride thanks to the genius of Dave Weagle’s dw-link suspension platform. With this design, there is no question that you can expect it to be seriously efficient and progressive. And with that progressive end stroke the Ripmo AF also offers coil-shock as well as air-shock compatibility. Getting that supple shock progression through the entire stroke ensures that you’ll get the most out of your Ripmo traction.
Geometry and Tire Compatibility of the Ibis Ripmo AF UDH
The geometry and frame design makes room for up to 2.6-inch tires, another boon to your grippy needs. Overall, the geometry is sweet-spot progressive with a steep 76° seat tube angle and mildly slack 64.9° head tube angle. The combo will effectively make you feel like you are really settled in the bike and not just on top of it. Perhaps the most interesting of the geometry numbers is the 44 mm fork offset; a 51 mm offset is more common for a bike like this, but the 44 mm will enhance the feeling of stability when screaming downhill.
Enhancing the overall convenience and longevity of the Ripmo AF, Ibis have introduced the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), which essentially future-proofs it for whatever newfangled derailleur appears in the years to come. As a result of this change, the entire swingarm has been updated and introduces a 55mm chain line, with a wider and stiffer chainstay.
All in all, the Ibis Ripmo AF UDH maxes out on performance and durability while minimizing cost. It’s a multi-purpose all-mountain bike that can rip the trails and still be super fun at the pump track.
