Practical and Versatile: The Basso Diamante Disc with Disc Brake Capability
Unless you are really a professional racer looking to shave every possible gram off your bike or perhaps have a collection of expensive rim brake wheels you want to continue using, buying even a racing bike with disc brakes certainly represents the most practical and versatile option these days. The Basso Diamante Disc offers the perfect mix of lightweight climbing bike with the added advantage that the strong stopping power of disc brakes provides.
When a bike descends as beautifully as this bike does, adding the disc brake capabilities will only enhance the entire experience. Basso bikes offer an elegant ride that makes it a pleasure every time you clip in and put some power into the pedals. They have been certain to design a bike that looks amazing on the surface while being a complete road beast underneath. They do it first by starting with the highest quality carbon they can find and use a variation of carbon sheets with fibers oriented at 0°, 22°,45°and 3 types carbon filaments using 1K, 3K and UD weaves. They have given the tubing shapes special attention to increase rigidity without compromising on the aero qualities. So the bottom bracket flex and the head tube torsion have been improved by as much as 50% over the previous Diamante.
Blade Front Design of the Basso Diamante Disc
But this increase in stiffness does not translate into a sore ass with too much road chatter reverberating up the frame. That’s because Basso has incorporated into the Diamante their patented 3B-BASSO seat clamp system that they developed initially for the Super Veloce aero version of the Diamante. It uses a triple point fixing method combined with an anti-vibration rubber gusset to secure and cushion the seatpost. It will eliminate seatpost slip as well. Comfort at the front end has not been ignored. The designers want to make certain you can make this bike as race ready as you like but also raise the stack for those riders who prefer to sit slightly more upright. It is a design feature that they call their Blade Front that semi-integrates the fork-frame-stem juncture point. It’s a design that really means you can get very low down if you want, but it comes with a “comfort package” that will allow you to raise your handlebar position without losing the rigidity up front and handling characteristics. It works in conjunction with the tapered head tube which works to retain the desired stiffness and solid handling on the front end.
With disc brakes and tire clearance of 28mm, you will likely be tempted to take this over some gentle gravel paths, and it will be able to take it, but don’t get too carried away or you’ll be missing out on how smooth and beautifully this bike rolls over regular tarmac. The Basso Diamante Disc is a pure racing bike that will work equally well for you at a Haute Route event in the Alps or coffee ride with friends.
