The Pinarello Granger X1: Affordable Gravel Riding
If you are interested in trying your hand at gravel riding but don’t want to soak a ton of money into the process, the Pinarello Granger X1 offers the perfect mix of performance and affordability.
Made to slip into the endurance-oriented category for Pinarello, the Granger straddles the line between snappy and capable. It enables you to feel fast on the road, and fearless when the gravel gets serious. Made using Pinarello’s Toray T600 carbon fiber, the Granger X1 is robust enough for the rough trails this bike will be facing, and also exceptional vibration absorption. If you are planning long bikepacking adventures or joining self-supported long distance races, the extra level of comfort will be critical to enjoyment and success.
The Granger X1 is an endurance bike for someone who likes to have a very snappy, responsive ride as well. Compared to the Grevil F, Pinarello’s premium gravel bike, the Granger has a slightly longer reach and deeper drop, which seems counterintuitive for an endurance gravel bike. But the longer chainstays and overall longer wheelbase will ensure this is a frame that feels super planted on loose gravel descents.
It comes equipped with mudguard mounts as well as bosses on the top tube for a bento box. Interestingly too, instead of a proprietary aero seatpost like you’ll find on the Grevil, the Granger uses a typical round seatpost which will allow for a dropper post to be fitted. Dropper posts are less common on gravel bikes but can come in super handy if you are tackling technical descents and just want a little more freedom of movement while maneuvering the bike.
SRAM APEX Groupset in the Granger X1 for Performance and Durability
Equipped with an SRAM APEX groupset, the Granger X1 offers an exceptional level of performance and durability at a really reasonable price. You will be able to enjoy super difficult gravel trails thanks to the wide tire clearance – up to 50mm on 700c wheels or 2.2-inch on 650b wheels – while still feeling agile enough to ride extensively on the road.
