Description
Designed to offer all the unique features that make a triathlete’s life much easier, the Wilier Turbine offers the four pillars of Wilier’s triathlete philosophy: aerodynamics; braking efficiency; wide range of positions; ease of transportation.
It’s common to find all of a brand’s most innovative designs first appear in their time trial frame, and that certainly is the case with the Turbine. Wilier admit that it is the frame they have poured all their expertise into so that the rider can maximize power to go as fast as possible. Wilier Turbine was designed using NACA aerodynamic profiles featuring a truncated teardrop tube shape to make use of the aero properties while reducing weight. Something the Turbine has focused on is staying as lightweight as possible. Race courses increasingly include climbs and technical sections where extra weight can dull accelerations and kill the legs.
Though only four or five years ago, disc brakes on tri and time trial bikes were seen as unnecessary, they have now become one of the hallmarks of the improvements we have seen in TT frame designs. Not only do disc brakes provide improved braking power, which inevitably allows riders to keep the speed high and wait to brake till the last possible moment, including disc brakes in the design improves the aero qualities of the frame. Having disc brakes has made it possible for designers to use very wide fork stances and widen the rear triangle to open up the space between the fork/frame and the wheels. This leads to a dramatic reduction in turbulence, improving aerodynamic penetration.
The front end of the bike is where the aerodynamics of the frame and handlebar design really takes center stage, though. The Wilier Turbine boasts special monocoque carbon handlebars have been fully integrated to improve drag, while they can also be adjusted to fit a variety of positions. To make the Turbine easier to travel with, the handlebars can be quickly compacted without removing any cables and without losing the original set-up.
Customization of the Wilier Turbine Frameset for the Perfect Fit
The Wilier Turbine comes in three sizes with the choice of three types of seatposts and the multiple options for handlebar and extension setup, to ensure that every rider can find the perfect fit for pushing out the power.
