Colnago V4Rs bike frame - a bike to win
Cycling is all about having fun. And what could be more fun than riding the absolute best racing bikes in the world? When you buy the Colnago V4RS, you will experience what true high performance really feels like. Just ask two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar.
The V4RS is the next in Colnago’s V-series, following along from the V3RS which was the bike Pogačar rode to two consecutive Tour victories. Now with the improvements made to the V4RS, Colnago says this is a bike that is Built to Win. And who’d doubt them? The Colnago designers had a difficult task when asked to improve on the V3RS, and some of the changes are nuanced at best. They have used an innovative carbon fiber lamination with the carbon layup varied throughout the frame to provide the best performance depending on what forces need to be withstood. So for instance, the T47 Bottom Bracket is oversized, to improve how responsive the bike is.
Upgrades of Colnago V4Rs Disc in comparison to previous models
However, the most obvious upgrade comes at the front end, which has received a series of aero-oriented improvements. The head tube has been sculpted to improve its aero performance, and most importantly, Colnago has optimized the design around the CC.01 aero cockpit that we’ve already seen on the C68. Though the V4RS can be built-up with third-party cockpits, the Colnago CC.01 has a drag surface reduced by up to 16% compared to the cockpits mounted on V3Rs and only weighs 310 grams. Why would you go with anything else?
To add to the cockpit bling, Colnago has also developed a 3D-printed computer mount. It looks incredibly clean and offers an additional aero advantage. The integrated cockpit works to hide all cables and hoses thanks to the shape of the head tube and the innovative use of CeramicSpeed’s SLT headset bearings. We all know how incredibly smooth CS bearings are and the SLT enhance that by also being practically bomb-proof, requiring little-to-no maintenance.
Unlike most brands that make aero claims with no numbers to back them up, Colnago has released a lot of the data behind their testing. They have developed their own dynamic style testing, which should provide more real-world accuracy to the results. That means they are not just testing according to two-dimensional forces but three-dimensional, just like a real bike experiences. And even if most of us aren’t putting out the sort of power or getting up to the sorts of speeds elite professionals do, we can still benefit from the advancements that make the difference between winning and losing at the highest levels.
Something to keep in mind if you are looking to upgrade to this from your V3RS is that the geometry has been tweaked. On offer in seven sizes, there is a lot more consistency between the smallest and biggest sizes. In particular, the reach and stack have been revised to offer a more balanced performance among the different sizes. The result is better power transfer and the same race feeling across all the sizes.
The Colnago V4RS can accommodate up to 32mm tires, which will be as handy for anyone racing Paris-Roubaix as it is for anyone riding regularly across poorly maintained city roads. Available in five slick colors and a variety of build options as well as a frameset, the V4RS will ride you very close to cycling paradise.
