Description
Lightweight and Responsive Design of the Enve Fray Bike Frame
Bikes like the Enve Fray make us think that maybe the cycling industry has seen the light. It proves that the terms “all-road” and “endurance-oriented” can still also mean “lightweight” and “responsive”. It’s a bike that is designed for people like us. Riders who are interested in quality performance, but only as a feature of the bigger picture: being able to be comfortable over the course of a good ride that includes a variety of pavement types with even a little gravel thrown in.
Versatility is the key with the Enve Fray. It’s not a gravel bike. It’s not a racing bike. It has attributes that can make it handy in gravelly situations and even competitive situations. Real world performance was at the forefront of the design brief for the Enve engineers. Designed using both CFD and the wind tunnel data, the Fray offers aerodynamic focused tube shapes designed to play especially well with Enve SES rims. But weight was not sacrificed on the altar of aerodynamics. Rather, they balanced aero gains with keeping the frame light and well-kitted out with multiple mounting points for bags and fenders.
Aerodynamic Excellence of the Enve Fray
Front-end frame integration enhances the aerodynamics thanks to Enve’s IN-Route System which routes wires and hoses through the bar, stem, and headset. Enve has also developed an anti-rattle frame finishing kit that holds everything silently in place. All you need to do is buy one of Enve’s own IN-Route Aero Stem and IN-Route handlebars, or find a third-party stem and handlebar that is IN-Route compatible.
Capability and comfort were at least as important to the Enve designers as aerodynamics. That’s why the frame and fork have been made using a carbon layup that offers the sort of vertical compliance that will make even long days in the saddle a cinch. And though the endurance geometry has been optimized for tire between 31mm - 35mm, depending on the drivetrain you intend to run, you can have up to 38 mm tire with a 2x up front and 40 mm tires when running a 1x.
Compatible with Shimano and SRAM 1x and 2x mechanical and electric options, the Enve Fray will also work with Campagnolo Ekar 1x, but not with Campy 2x or EPS groupsets. The Enve Fray features in-frame downtube storage and a threaded T47 inboard-bearing bottom bracket that will accommodate a wide range of creak-free crankset options. Available in seven sizes, the Fray weighs about 900 grams in a size 56.
Whether you have bikepacking adventures, Gran Fondo ambitions, or just want to have a fun, lightweight and capable all-road dropbar bike, the Enve Fray offers all the modern features with a classic soul.
