Description
CHAPTER2 Rere Disc: The Ultimate Aero Bike with Versatility
Finding the perfect ride for yourself sometimes seems to involve way too many compromises. With the CHAPTER2 Rere Disc, you will be able to put together an aero bike that climbs well, can handle some adventurous gravel, and offers an unbelievably balanced ride. And all this for a fraction of the price a typical super bike will cost you.
It’s not uncommon these days for bike frames to go for what entire top line bikes used to cost. As tempting as it may be to get a second mortgage on the house to buy your dream bike, with the CHAPTER2 Rere Disc, there is no need to take sure dire measures. This pro quality aero frame can be built up with the top level electric groupsets and work equally well with a more moderate level of components, and will certainly give you all the speed advantage that you need to win your next sprint to the town boundary.
With the deep knowledge that Mike Pryde and his design team at CHAPTER2 have in fluid dynamics, as well as access to the Auckland University Wind Tunnel, it should come as no surprise that they know a thing or two about making a bike frame aero. , CHAPTER2 has made the Rere Disc with an eye to reducing as much drag as possible. And it is not just aero when facing a head wind. They have developed the shapes to have the ultimate aero effect at a wide range of Yaw on both the drive train and non-drive train side. So the head tube-fork crown-down tube area has a seamless appearance to prevent turbulence from developing. Similarly, the seat tube has been shaped to sit very close to the rear tire, again with an eye to smoothing out the airflow around that region. The fork legs have been given a Kamm tail shape, as has the oversized down tube. And the seat post has an aero shape as well. Not only that, but knowing some triathletes will want to turn to the Rere Disc for their events, the seat post is reversible to accommodate tri positions better.
Since anyone who is serious enough to shell out for an aero specific bike probably is also looking to get into a pretty aggressive position, the Rere Disc comes with a lower stack and slightly longer reach than the Tere, which is more of an all-rounder. But that doesn’t mean this is a bone shatteringly uncomfortable bike. Using an intelligent mix of Toray T700, T800 and 3K Directional Carbon, the Rere feels stiff and responsive without offering the harsh ride that so often goes hand in hand with aero-specific frames. It helps too that even in the rim brake version of this frame, you can fit 28mm tires which will make the ride that much more forgiving. Pairing the wider tires with a modern wheelset designed for wider tires will also help add to the aero effect.
Slick and Aerodynamic Cockpit of the Rere Disc
The frame for the Rere Disc comes with the stem, though you can upgrade to the Mana bar/stem cockpit, which will naturally add to how slick it looks and how aerodynamically inclined it is. The CHAPTER2 Rere Disc comes in five sizes from XS to XL, with two different fork options. The XS and S come with a fork that has an offset of 53mm while the larger sizes have a fork with a 43mm offset, to ensure similar handling and reduce the chance of toe overlap for the smaller sizes. This is a high level road bike that will beg you to get crazy and adventurous on even your most common rides.
