Introducing the Pinarello X3 Endurance Bike
Recognizing that not everyone is interested in joining races or ripping the legs off their riding partners, the engineers at Pinarello have developed the X3 using high quality carbon designed to offer comfort and efficiency over longer distances. This is an endurance-oriented frame that can still give you the thrill of a racing bike when you do feel like putting the power down.
Having focused on making the X3 their well-priced, endurance-oriented frame, Pinarello went to work on special features and design decisions that emphasize comfort without compromising performance. Their efforts began with the choice of carbon fiber, this time using the Toray T600 with a high quality special resin. It is a quality carbon that keeps the frame light, responsive, and most important for the long distance riders, comfortable. They’ve also redesigned the rear triangle specifically to dissipate vibrations, which results in reduced strain on the rider’s back and more long-distance comfort.
As with every Pinarello, the X3 frame has an asymmetric shape to the tubing. They give the drivetrain side a sturdier layup to help it deal with the greater stresses it will have to withstand, which ensures a responsive, snappy ride that will give you the leg up on your friends who like to spice up long rides by racing for the town signs. They have also focused on making the X3 frame as aero as possible which means that they have taken design cues from their racing stallion Dogma F. The head tube has been sculpted to provide a slippery leading edge while the integrated internal cable routing looks clean and saves up to five watts Pinarello says. The aero seat post and tapered seat tube save watts and provide a springiness to the backside which will absorb rough road chatter.
Pinarello has always been a leading brand in size choices, and with nine available sizes, the X3 holds up that tradition. The sizes range from 43cm to 60cm, which means anyone from around 4’11 to well over 6’4” can find an X3 to fit well. They also made some serious choices about the fork rake for each size. The three smaller sizes have a bigger rake than the others. That way they have kept the trail consistent across all sizes, ensuring the same reliable handling.
Endurance-Oriented Geometry of the X3
Since it is endurance-oriented, the X3’s geometry reflects the needs of someone who plans on being in the saddle for more than 4 hours a ride. The reach and stack are less aggressive than the F-series racing bikes, which takes pressure off the rider’s back and posterior. Being able to fit up to 32mm tires will also enhance the comfort and improve rolling resistance over the course of a long day in the saddle.
The Pinarello X3 offers exceptional handling and responsiveness while emphasizing comfort and efficiency. The friendly price point only makes it one of the best endurance-oriented bikes on the market. The bike comes pre-built with SRAM Rival AXS, though the frame can accommodate electronic groupsets as well as Shimano mechanical.
