The Revamped Basso Palta II: More Capable and Fun
As much fun as the original Palta was to ride, the designers at Basso have moved with the times and revamped the Palta to be an even more capable and super fun bike to take on the rough stuff. The revised Basso Palta offers the sort of comfort, capability, and fast handling that can keep you exploring for days.
Even with the first iteration of the Palta, Basso’s designers were keen to emphasize that this is a bike that is meant for real gravel adventures and less cross racing oriented. With this second edition Palta, that becomes even more the case. Perhaps most obviously, they have caught up with the wide tire trend. The original Palta could fit up to 42mm tires, but that width is so 2018. Now the Palta II can accommodate up to 45mm tires in a 700c wheel and 2.0” tires on a 650b wheel. That’s more like it, right?!
Another important update to the Palta is that it can support both 1x and 2x systems. The original Palta had committed to 1x, which is the pure gravel way. But we applaud this opening up the options, since this is a bike that will be super useful for bikepacking adventures that may require extensive time on paved roads and other situations where having tighter gearing will prove useful. The Palta II rides like a dream whether you are on gravel or smooth tarmac. There will be a lot of roadies who want to inject a little adventure into their usual routes and who will really appreciate the mix of options both for tire width and gearing.
Integration is a keyword in cycling circles, and the updated Basso Palta throws its hat into the ring as well with a very clever cockpit. The Paradigma Integration System provides the answer to anyone who likes the clean lines and aero advantage front end integration provides but hates to complicate maintenance with intricately threaded cables. The cables are internally routed, but the two-piece stem and handlebar cockpit makes it super easy to access the inner workings of the headset and cables, like when you want to raise or lower the stack, without becoming a mechanic’s nightmare.
Higher Grade Carbon used in the Basso Palta II for Lightness and Durability
Aside from that, certain tweaks have been made to the already well designed Palta. A higher grade, lighter carbon has been used to ensure the frame stays nice and light while enhancing durability. Aerodynamics have not been ignored since several of the tube shapes sport the Kamm tail design that allows the frame to benefit from the aero shape without gaining weight as a result. Comfort has also been enhanced thanks especially to the slimmed seatstays and the extra exposure the aero seatpost has received as a result of the sloping frame design.
The Basso Palta II is a gravel bike that is dying to go on adventures. There are three sets of bosses for water bottle cages and the top tube has a cleverly concealed mount option for a bento box. This bike will keep you equally comfy on long explorations and mix surface hammer sessions.
