Knolly Tyaughton Titanium: Trail Bliss in a Hardtail
If finding some fun on the trails is what it’s all about, then you could hardly find a better riding companion than the Knolly Tyaughton Titanium hardtail mountain bike. Made from titanium, this hardtail has the supple ride you’d hope to have from a full suspension machine and the lightweight responsiveness more common in dropbar gravel options.
As a hardtail designed specifically for 29 inch wheels and 150mm fork, though a 160mm fork is also well within its wheelhouse, the Knolly Tyaughton simply begs to be ridden hard on your favorite trails or taken to the bike park for some super fun goof-off sessions. Both seriously capable and playful, it’s a beautiful bike made from a wonder material. Titanium works so well in this application, it’s a wonder to us that more people aren’t producing extremely capable Ti hardtails and gravel bikes. The material’s great strength to weight ratio, customizability, and exceptional compliancy makes it the perfect option for everything from fire roads to technical climbs and even more technical descents.
Knolly chose to use titanium for this frame because it is light, stiff, durable and lasts forever. Not only that, but it is beautiful, both to work with and to look at. The Tyaughton Titanium uses proprietary Knolly oversized titanium tube sets which have been uniquely designed for each frame size. That means that according to size, each tube set is specifically butted, shaped, and tapered to offer the ideal ride for everyone regardless of stature. So you’ll get the characteristically fantastic Knolly ride quality that will help you feel totally stable and in control at the same time feeling like you can send it with the flick of a pedal. The exquisitely worked titanium naturally also injects a level of vertical compliancy that will match even the most aggressive riding styles.
Progressive Design of the Knolly Tyaughton for Aggressive Riding
The geometry is progressive enough to feel natural even to someone who spends a lot of time bombing the descents on a full-on enduro monster. That means the 64.5° head angle with the spec’d 150mm fork rocks both on steep climbs and super steep descents. Knolly says that the Tyaughton can also be loads of fun with a 160mm fork which pushes the head angle back to 64°. In any case, the long front of the bike gives you room to move in the cockpit, while the 427mm chainstays ensure a peppy backend that makes it easy to maneuver without sacrificing stability. The 75° seat tube puts you in an aggressive position that will enhance how well the bike climbs.
Though the geometry has been designed to pair with 150 and 160mm forks, with 150 being the ultimate sweet spot, Knolly is quick to point out that if you are keen to push your limits, the Tyaughton will keep right up with you since the head tube shape maximizes the strength to support to forks up to 170mm.
The Knolly Tyaughton Titanium hardtail for 29 inch wheels features the 157Trail rear hub spacing which uses the wide flange 157 hubs with 73mm BB shells. This allows you to run a wide range of tire sizes up to and sometimes even greater than 2.6 inch. This particular spacing standard also allows for a 36 tooth front chainring. The ISCG05 chain guide mount attaches cleanly into a recessed CNC machined pocket on the chainstay yoke so you can easily run without one if you’d prefer.
