Elevating Enduro Racing with Niner WFO 9 RDO
If you have been a longtime customer of Niner, you will be super happy to see that they have resurrected the WFO 29er platform. If this is your first introduction to the frame or even the brand, you will be super stoked by just how amazingly capable the Niner WFO 9 RDO has become. It will help take your enduro racing to the next level.
This is a long-travel 29er that takes all the lessons that Niner has learned over the years then adds a level of innovation that makes it not only great fun to ride downhill but extremely capable uphill as well. The WFO in the name stands for Wide, Full Open, which means that this is a big-wheeled bruiser that can really go downhill. We mean REALLY. And there is no one reason that we can point to as a reason it is so good. A lot of different aspects go into making it: the way the geometry works with the travel, the way the travel works with the wheel size. It all plays a part. The 64-degree head tube angle combined with the low BB and long top tube encourage a level of stability at high speeds to make you think you can turn pro overnight.
Geometry, Suspension, and Kinematics on the WFO 9 RDO
But what about the climbing? A long wheelbase usually has a detrimental impact on tight, technical climbs. But the Niner WFO 9 RDO has a 77-degree seat tube angle that keeps your weight centered over the bottom bracket to allow for a powerful pedal stroke once the gradients get steep. And as with all Niner creations, the crux of the matter rests in the Constantly Varying Arc (CVA) suspension system, which was first introduced in 2008 and has been improving Niner rides ever since. It’s a design that allows the suspension to be super supple while climbing and then supportive and sensitive when raging downhill. Subtle tweaks to the WFO 9 RDO’s kinematics ensure flowing pedaling over rough terrain even while the 170mm of travel is working for you.
Light but durable, the RDO carbon fiber of the frame increases the strength and the rigidity to make every pedal stroke count. Full sleeve cable guides will help you or your mechanic get the build right and maintained without having to fish for elusive cables in a dark tube. And to enhance the smoothness of the suspension, the Enduro Max Black Oxide pivot bearings live up to their reputation as the most durable, silkiest, long lasting pivot bearings in the industry. They are one of the reasons Niner offers a lifetime warranty service, including help with small parts and support.
When the geometry, suspension, and kinematics play so well together like they do with the Niner WFO 9 RDO, you gotta believe you are going to have an awesome time on the trails. Whether you are enduro racing or just making the most of your time in the mountains, the WFO 9 RDO can carve your lines and blow your mind.
