Description
We hear a lot these days that bikes are getting just too expensive. And we can completely understand the basis of that complaint. That’s what makes a bike like the Basso Venta R such a pleasure because not only is it a made-in-Italy carbon bike, but it offers a ride quality that can be appreciated by pro and neophyte alike, and it sells at a really great price point.
All-Road Capabilities of the Basso Venta R
Though it is officially a road bike, the Basso Venta R slots neatly into that all-road category too, as the type of bike that offers a fantastic mix of snappy responsiveness with a multi-surface capability and comfort geometry that will make it fun to ride over all types of rougher roads and even light gravel. Taking design inspiration from the race-ready Diamante, the Venta R looks like a racing bike with its straight leg fork, slim seatstays and aero fairing on the back of the seat tube. It even incorporates a clever semi-integrated cable design on the front using the house brand Microtech’s Integrated Cables Headset.
The frame is made from the lightweight and reliable Torayca T700 carbon and Basso has even integrated in mold bearing housing with no additional inserts to keep the overall weight low. The T700 is the same carbon the Pinarello uses on the pricier F5, so it’s definitely an elite level material. Basso designers focused on aero-shaping the tubing to help it feel slippery in the wind, but not over-emphasize the feature to the point that it became heavier or unsteady in cross winds. The lowered seatstays also add to the aero elements, while enhancing comfort through the added level of vertical bounce the super slim seatstay profile introduces.
Unique Geometry
Basso is an Italian brand which means that they are not afraid to do things their own way. The geometry is a perfect example. Some data points, like the short reach and steep angles, indicate this is a pure racing machine, while other measurements, like the longer chainstays and tall head tube, give the impression of an endurance bike. Taken together, it all makes the Venta R feel both snappy and fast on the open road and up climbs as well as comfortable over rough roads and hours in the saddle. It’s a very nifty balancing act.
Perhaps the greatest difference between the Venta R and the Diamante, its big brother, is the fact that the Venta R can very comfortably fit up to 35mm tires. So you can run pretty wide rubber in slicks, or even use less chunky knobby cyclocross or gravel tires if you really want to extend your ride routes. Basso is not promoting this as a gravel bike by any means – they have some pretty great gravel bikes for anyone looking to go off-road most of the time – but the Basso Venta R can certainly be considered a super capable road and all-road bike that can handle a variety of poorly paved or hard gravel routes.
Basso Venta R Bike Frame - Perfect for All Types of Rides
Perhaps the Basso Venta R is the perfect road and all-road bike to get you through every type of road ride from coastal highways to some gorgeous routes that take in a little vineyard gravel exploring.
