Passoni Prima Disco: A Titanium Work of Art
There are a lot of beautiful bikes in the world, but few brands consistently produce as many works of art as Passoni. The Italian brand has done it again with the Passoni Prima Disco. As a ready-to-ride member of the Passoni titanium frame line-up, the Prima Disco can be yours without the usual wait that is inherent in ordering custom fit frames.
Even if it is an ode to their first non-custom Ti frame from the 80s, the Prima Disco comes with all the build capabilities of modern bikes and combines that with the beautifully supple and responsive ride that the best titanium bikes offer. Passoni have reintroduced this frame with stock sizes into its collection largely because they want to make their titanium bikes available to people who perhaps have never ridden a Ti frame. Most of their other options are generally made-to-measure, which not only costs more, but means that you need to have an already detailed idea of how you want your bike to fit and ride. With the Prima Disco, you’ll have six sizes from which to choose, as well as a variety of finishing kits with handlebar, stem, bottle cages and bottle options.
Passoni have introduced this disc brake version of the Prima to make certain that you can have access to the superior braking capabilities generally offered by disc brakes, while still riding an elegant, low weight titanium racing bike. They use a mix of different grades of titanium and draw them to different thicknesses to offer a beautiful Ti ride quality with a responsiveness and durability that will make them perfect for everything from race day to multi-day bikepacking. This is a bike with practically no limits for where the road can take you. For those areas that will take the brunt of the heavy cycling forces, like the bottom bracket, headtube, and the dropouts, Passoni have used a CNC machined grade 5 titanium, which gives the frame builder the very desirable combination of strength, weldability and corrosion resistance. The BSA treading for the bottom bracket will then help keep the frame efficient and easy to maintain.
Columbus Futura Fork used in the Prima Disco
For the rear triangle, Passoni uses tube sizes and shapes with round seatstays and ovaled, tapered chainstays to guarantee the ideal level of compliance while not allowing any flex to hamper your hard accelerations. The expert workmanship and attention to detail is evident in everything down to the dropouts, which have been made from the seriously strong CNC’d grade 5 titanium while retaining a pleasing shape and working with a replaceable hanger. For the fork, they have turned again to the Columbus Futura customized for Passoni which will help you feel confident with the sharp handling that will do exactly what you want it to do.
You can order the Passoni Prima Disco in any color so long as it’s titanium. Seriously, why would anyone want to have a titanium bike in anything but the beautiful naked Ti? It does have a little color thanks to the customized Columbus fork. The Prima Disco is a beautiful road bike with disc brakes that is designed to make every ride memorable.
