Description
Recognizing that not everyone is interested in joining races or ripping the legs off their riding partners, the engineers at Pinarello have developed the X-series high quality carbon frames designed to offer comfort and efficiency over longer distances. These are endurance-oriented frames that can still give you the thrill of a racing bike when you do feel like putting the power down. The Pinarello X1 combines exceptional handling qualities we have come to expect from the Italian brand with long range comfort at an affordable price.
Comfort-Oriented Geometry of the Pinarello X1 Frame
Though set firmly in the road category, the Pinarello X1 offers tons of comfort and wide tire capability that will help you feel in total control even when the tarmac turns terrible or disappears into gravel entirely. Like other members of the X series, the X1 geometry focuses on offering a relaxed position that you will be able to hold comfortably for as many hours on the bike as you would like to ride. The reach and stack are less aggressive than the F-series racing bikes, which takes pressure off the rider’s back and posterior.
Comfort is also behind the choice of carbon fiber. By using the Toray T600 with a high quality special resin, the frame remains light, responsive, and most important for the long distance riders, comfortable. They’ve also redesigned the rear triangle specifically to dissipate vibrations, which results in reduced strain on the rider’s back and more long-distance comfort.
That doesn’t mean that the X1 feels like a noodle when you really want to put some power down. As with all modern Pinarellos, the frame has an asymmetric shape to the tubing. They give the drivetrain side a sturdier layup to help it deal with the greater stresses it will have to withstand, which ensures a responsive, snappy ride that will give you the leg up on your friends who like to spice up long rides by racing for the town signs.
They have also focused on making the X1 frame as aero as possible which means that they have taken design cues from their racing stallion Dogma F. The head tube has been sculpted to provide a slippery leading edge while the integrated internal cable routing looks clean and saves up to five watts Pinarello says. The aero seat post and tapered seat tube save watts and provide a springiness to the backside which will absorb rough road chatter. The focus on comfort inevitably also turns to tire width. The Pinarello X1 can accommodate up to 32 mm tires, which will be a big influencer on how comfortable the ride is, while taking advantage of the lower rolling resistance wider tires at lower pressures provide.
Range of Sizes of the Pinarello X1
Pinarello has always been a leading brand in size choices, and with nine available sizes, the X1 holds up that tradition. The sizes range from 43cm to 60cm, which means anyone from around 4’11 to well over 6’4” can find an X1 to fit well. They also made some serious choices about the fork rake for each size. The three smaller sizes have a bigger rake than the others. That way they have kept the trail consistent across all sizes, ensuring the same reliable handling.
When you are focused on having fun and road riding in complete comfort, the Pinarello X1 offers exceptional quality at an accessible price. The bike comes pre-built with Shimano 105 groupset, though the frame can accommodate electronic groupsets as well as Shimano mechanical.
