Pinarello X7 Bike Frame - Bringing Comfort-Oriented Riding at a Great Value
If in the past you have had trouble keeping track of what the different names of the Pinarello lineup mean in terms of intended riding style, then the introduction of the F and X series should be a welcomed relief. With the F indicating pure racing machines, the X series are designed for more endurance and comfort-oriented riding. And if you are wondering what is the difference between the Pinarello X9 and X7, the frames are the same, but the spec is different. With the Pinarello X7, you can enjoy a slightly more comfortably priced machine thanks to the high quality for value Shimano Ultegra D12 groupset.
In terms of carbon, the Pinarello X7 also uses Toray T900 carbon fiber for the layup, which introduces an extra degree of vertical compliance to the frame. The designers believe this is the ideal mix for any bike with the intended focus on long distance comfort for those of us who don’t enjoy a WorldTour rider’s level of flexibility. The X7 differs from the Dogma X too in the shape of the special X seatstays. It still uses the X stay design for compliance, but the central part of the bridge that is used in the Dogma X is removed for the X7 to incorporate an additional level of rear end compliance.
Another noteworthy nod towards comfort is that the X7 can accommodate up to 35 mm tires. And that means comfortably accommodate with lots of room to spare. Pinarello was careful to say, though, that they didn’t want to go too much wider than 35 mm because this is after all still a road bike for serious endurance-oriented riders. They are not categorizing it as an all road and certainly not a gravel bike, though with that level of tire clearance, you would be safe taking it over hard pack gravel and rougher paved roads.
Sizing and Geometry of the X7 frame
The Pinarello X7 comes in 9 sizes compared to 11 sizes for the Dogma X. But that is still an impressive number of sizes for a carbon frame, when most companies maybe have 6 sizes at most with an uninspired small, medium and large nomenclature. Since the number of sizes have been reduced, it’s a little hard to make a direct comparison between the Dogma X and the rest of the frames in the X series, but in general the non-Dogma X series frames have a slightly more relaxed geometry compared to the Dogma X, which of course is even more relaxed than the pure-racing Dogma F geometry. Again, the intention is to make bikes in the X-series the best possible all-around road frame for us normal folk.
With a frame weight of around 960 grams in a size 53, the Pinarello X7 offers light and responsive handling that helps you feel fast as well as comfortable over the long haul.
