Ibis Ripmo Bike Frame: Enhancing Your Enduro Riding Experience
Getting the most out of your enduro riding just got a lot easier with the Ibis Ripmo. It’s a slight update on the Ripmo that doesn’t change any of the ride quality and performance essentials. The new features perhaps will make your life a little easier when not on the trails.
The Ripmo has a deep history of enduro racing, but it also easily doubles as the most fun bike you could take on any all day ride in the mountains. That’s because it is as much of a pleasure to ride on a climb as a descent. As a long travel 29er, you’ll get 160mm suspension up front and the 147mm dw-link rear travel. Since we’re talking a Dave Weagle developed linkage system, there is no question that you can expect it to be seriously efficient and progressive. And with that progressive end stroke the Ripmo also offers coil-shock compatibility.
Low maintenance IGUS bushings have been used in the lower link to increase torsional rigidity and keep the weight low. Bearings remain in the upper link where they’ll work best with the rotation and load requirements. Airtight seals protect the bushings from spray and muck, decreasing service needs and increasing lifetime. That’s a good thing too since the geometry will just beg you to take this bike to the max. The steep 76° head tube angle gets you easily into position when you need to rocket up a climb, while the 44mm fork offset and corresponding 118mm trail helps keep the handling snappy on technical sections. Whether you love to shred, or find deep-seated satisfaction in churning your way up a mountain, the Ripmo will give you the tools to succeed.
Now what does that S mean in the name? Well, it’s referring to the series of upgrades that the Ripmo has been given. Not a ton needed to be touched, since it’s nearly perfect already. They have switched to the SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), which essentially future-proofs it for whatever newfangled derailleur SRAM concocts in the years to come. As a result of this change, the entire swingarm has been revamped and moved to a 55mm chain line, with a wider and stiffer chainstay. And this means that they have invested a bit of time in upgrading clevis pivot bushings and ensuring they are better sealed.
Since Ibis has created such a beautiful carbon frame, they have also designed some protective coverings to prevent any flying rocks or mega chain slap from damaging this beauty. So the chainstays and seatstays get a little extra attention with some raised rubber blocks to deaden the sound as well, and sections to protect from heel rub. The down tube has not been forgotten with a thick rubber guard covering that most important area that generally gets hit the most often and the hardest.
Maximum Traction and Versatility with the Ripmo bike: 29-Inch Wheels and 2.5-Inch Tire Clearance
To get the best traction, you can wrap up to 2.5-inch tires on your 29-inch wheels, making the Ibis Ripmo a crazy fun bike to ride in everything from loam to rock gardens. Internal cable routing that is actually simple to route, a longer dropper post capability, and a removable ISCG05 mount complete this incredibly attractive enduro package.
