Description
Pinarello New Dogma F
Pinarello first released the Dogma F without any signifying series numbers – F8, F10, F12 – in 2021. The Dogma F seemed the appropriate pinnacle to a long line of exceptional Dogmas. With the arrival of a new iteration of the Dogma F, Pinarello have left no detail unexamined in their mission to make the Pinarello Dogma F the best bike ever developed by the famous Italian brand.
Advanced Carbon Fiber Technology in the Pinarello Dogma F
At first glance, there are not that many things that look radically different between the updated Dogma F and its predecessor. But as always with Pinarello, the advancements are much more than paint-deep. Perhaps most elementally, the Dogma F is made using a new Toray M40X carbon fiber. This is the most advanced carbon fiber ever used by Pinarello. Its improved tensile strength means that the designers can use less of it when laying-up the frame while still making the famously a-symmetric frame stiffer and lighter overall.
Many frame manufacturers achieve super low frame weights by sacrificing overall frame strength and durability. That is never something Pinarello has done. With the introduction of this new carbon fiber, the Pinarello engineers have been able to maintain and even improve the stiffness ratio and overall durability, and still lose the weight. We’re talking about 108 grams compared to the previous Dogma F Disc, which was already nice and light.
Aerodynamic Enhancements
The weight savings are more incidental than the goal. That’s because Pinarello’s primary aim was to make the Dogma F as aerodynamic as possible, reducing the frame’s CdA or coefficient of aerodynamic drag by 0.2%. That might not sound like a lot, but it is the equivalent of saving 175 grams in weight. To achieve this, they have used an advanced new layup to sculpt the tube shapes in order to make them even more efficient against the wind.
For instance, the head tube has been slimmed, reducing the volume and width of the nose area by 8mm. They have made this possible by redesigning the steering tube, internals, and headset. Using an innovative elliptical steering tube, they can reduce the frontal surface of the head tube by using specially shaped bearings and improving the cable routing, moving it from the sides of the steering tube to the front.
The down tube also received some scrutinizing. To reduce frontal drag, they slimmed and sculpted the shape of the tube. It connects at a different angle as well with the bottom bracket, which has been rotated 3.5°. The underside of the bottom bracket as a result reflects a keel shape, like on a sailing boat, to improve the aerodynamics of the bottom bracket area by 1.2% compared to previous versions. The Onda Fork hasn’t been ignored, with the legs being slimmer while the introduction of a semi-integrated through axel, where the bolt on the right side of the fork has been integrated into the carbon, also enhances the aerodynamics on the front end.
Ride Quality and Handling of the Dogma F Road Bike
Ride quality has always been a huge point of pride with Pinarello. It doesn’t matter how light and stiff a frame is to them if it is a twitchy nightmare to descend on. Finding the balance between responsiveness and stability has always been a Pinarello specialty. And the Dogma F carries on that tradition by increasing the fork rake from 43 to 47 mm, which will encourage much more predictable handling when racing at speed.
Though the Most Talon Fast barstem does not come with the frame, it would be insanity not to buy it with the Dogma F. It has been updated to fit the more modern concern for narrower hand positions on the hoods while the drops flare just a touch more: 7° instead of the 4° flare offered by the Talon Light.
The Pinarello Dogma F has been designed with love and passion to help amateur athletes and WorldTour pros reach their highest possible performance level. With an emphasis on aerodynamics, responsiveness, stability, and reduced weight, the Dogma F offers the ultimate in road racing technology.
