The Enve M630 - A Versatile Carbon Trail Wheel
The Enve M630 may just be the most versatile pair of carbon trail wheels you’ll ever find. Taking advantage of Enve’s deep knowledge of creating durable and light carbon rims, the M630 have been fine tuned to suit the type of modern trail riding that demands a lot from your equipment.
With a 30mm internal rim width, these are little wider and at 26.5mm a little deeper than the M525s, which makes them a tad heavier but a ton ready to take some big hits on your favorite trails. The wider width of course means that you can stick some pretty beefy tires on the rims, and Enve recommends between 2.3 and 2.5 inch tires. You’ll be getting great grippy action from tires that wide, and the Wide Hookless Bead technology Enve has developed will allow you to take advantage of running your tires as low as you like without having to worry about a pinch flat. The design offers a wider leading edge of the hookless bead offers a broader surface to creates a more forgiving platform. So when you are running pretty low pressure in your tires and you hit a bump that would normally result in a pinched flat, the tire can instead bottom out without resulting in a “snake-bite” style flat.
Once you have the traction and feel the effectiveness of the acceleration, you’ll be wondering about the durability. With a 28 spoke count in front and rear, the M630s have four extra spokes per wheel compared to the M525s. That will enhance the durability in the face of impacts without hampering the plush feel of the wheels. And these wheels gain very little weight compared to the M525s, coming in at about 1450g in the 27.5 depending on which hub choice you go with, and 1550 in the 29er option, again depending on which hub you decide to run with. That’s pretty light for a wheel that is ready to put up with the punishment a serious trail rider is likely to dish out. The strength and integrity of the rim is also enhanced with the Molded Spoke Hole Technology which means the spoke and valve holes are molded with the rim rather than drilled after the fact. That helps keep the wheel light and avoids compromising the carbon by drilling into it.
