Description
If some people asked when Moots released the Express, their first e-bike and first carbon bike, “why would anyone want a Moots e-bike that isn’t even titanium?”, we ask, “why would you not?”! The Moots Express Flat Bar carbon e-bike offers all the exceptional design and build quality and attention to detail that every Moots bike enjoys, while giving you a big boost in the pedal assist department. Could there be any better way to enjoy the trails?
The Titanium Challenge and EPS Molding Process
Though the company is devoted to titanium bikes, they realized that making a Ti e-bike would not be practical since so much titanium would need to be used in order to withstand the forces of the motor that it would be super heavy, and you’d lose the lithe ride feel that makes titanium such a popular material for frames. Instead, they make use of a process known as EPS (expanded polystyrene) molding. It uses an inner mold that expands under heat to apply pressure to the prepeg carbon sheets. Pressure molding the carbon like this eliminates voids and wrinkles in the carbon, which ensures the strength and durability of the frame.
Exceptional Build and Performance of the Moots Express Flat Bar
As it is now, with their expert carbon use and layup, the Moots Express Flat Bar offers that ideal mix of supple and stiff for all your trail adventures. As a class 3 pedal assist e-bike, the Moots Express uses the Shimano EP801 drive unit which can get you going up to 28 mph (45 km/h). The 504Wh Shimano battery charges quickly and will be serviceable for many years to come thanks to their ubiquity. The battery is easily removable and there is a charging port in the frame.
Mountain Bike-Oriented Design of the Express Flat Bar
Compared to the Express e-gravel bike, the Express Flat Bar uses the same frame geometry but with a more mountain bike-oriented build, which includes the FSA flat bar handlebars and 2.1-inch tires. With its 100+ mile range on one charge, the Express Flat Bar is ideal for exploration, which is why Moots has included plenty of bosses so you can take enough water and equipment. There are two frame water bottle mounts, as well as two 3-pack mounts on the fork and integrated fender mounts. The Express could certainly do double-duty as your weekly commuter and weekend slayer.
Considering the durability and capability, the Moots Express Flat Bar e-mountain bike weighs a reasonably light 35-pounds. It’s the type of bike that offers the ultimate in range and reliability, which ensures it will quickly become your favorite two-wheeled explorer.
