Description
There are some wine producers in northern Italy, not too far from where Colnago is located, who are so good at what they do, a Barbera d'Alba will far out-perform a Barolo from a lesser producer. That equation also applies to expert bike manufacturers like Colnago, where a mid-range bike of the Italian brand will inevitably offer the type of performance that some brands cant even muster for their top of the line offerings. The Colnago V3 fits that description perfectly.
As the younger sibling to the Colnago V3Rs, the V3 will offer the same geometry that encourages an aggressive position with stable handling. It is also a monocoque frame that has received size-specific layups to ensure all frame sizes offer equal levels of performance. The one change with a view towards saving a touch of money is the use of Mitsubishi carbon instead of the more expensive Toray T800 used for the V3Rs. Though you might be sacrificing a slightly lower weight for the V3, the handling is equally snappy as the V3Rs, and the climbing feel is just as nimble. Italian manufacturers typically have a magic touch when it comes to developing balanced geometry that gives you that extra oomph of responsiveness without getting twitchy. This is a pure racing bike too so the head tube is shorter, the fork longer, and the bottom bracket has been dropped in order to improve stability.
Youll also be able to fit up to 28mm tires on the V3, which will enhance the ride feel and durability. The fork has received the advanced concave shape at the upper part, that will optimize tire clearance and aerodynamics as well as increase overall rigidity. The designers have also focused on the seatpost area. Its a tricky area to get right. You want it rigid so that your accelerations are efficient and not losing anything in noodlely flex. But then again, the seatpost is an important tool to help absorb any chatter from the road. Here the designers of the V3 have managed to reduce the overall weight of the area while creating a secure locking system and increasing the power transfer rigidity. Being integrated into the frame also gives it a sleek, aero appearance that will make it super easy to adjust as well.
The Colnago V3 comes in a disc brake specific full build with either Shimano Ultegra Di2 or SRAM Force AXS. It is a fun all around racing bike that will be light enough to make getting up the mountains fun, and stable enough to make descending them even more fun. Available in eight sizes, this is a road bike that offers serious value for money.
